What is Probus?

The Probus movement started in the 1960's and is an organisation for retired professional and businessmen.   The title PROBUS was derived from the words PROfessional and BUSiness.   Today there are well over 1500 clubs in the UK and in other countries.

Our Probus Club

The Number 1 Probus Club of Bath was founded in 1970 and is a friendly and informal non-political, non-sectarian, organisation for retired professional and business men.

It meets at Bath Rugby Clubhouse on the third Thursday of each month (except December) at 12.30pm in time for a drink at the bar followed by lunch at 1.00pm. After lunch there is a speaker and time for questions.  Topics range from Bee Keeping to being a Linesman at Wimbledon. The meeting normally finishes around 2.30pm.  In December we meet for Christmas Lunch at a Hotel and our partners are invited to join us.  Throughout the year we hold various social activities which range from country walks and a Pub Lunch, to visits to Museums or Stately Homes.  Again, our partners are invited to join us.

Who can join?

Membership is open to retired or semi-retired professional and businessmen aged 60 or over and resident in or near to Bath.   There is a modest joining fee and annual subscription.
